Maria Drugoveiko Named One of the Top 5 Under 5 Designers in Canada

Top 5  Under 5 puts the spotlight on up-and-coming interior designers.

Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), along with sponsors Interface and Knoll, is proud to announce the winners of its second annual Top 5 Under 5 Awards, an awards program aimed at recognizing the rising stars of Canada's interior design profession.

IDC accepted entries from Intern/Provisional Members across Canada within the first five years of their careers. Five winners from across Canada were selected based on recommendations from their supervisors as well as their unique solutions to a design dilemma - transforming an abandoned gas station into a workspace for today's mobile workers.

The Top 5 Under 5 Winners were honored at the IDC Annual Meeting, on September 21, 2012, at IIDEX Canada, the nation's largest tradeshow for the built environment. Each winner was presented with a distinct sculpture, specially commissioned from Canadian artist and sculptor Tim Forbes.

"These five winners are ones to watch!" said Victoria Fellowes, IDC's Director of Business Development. "Their submissions showed creativity and innovation, as well as technical expertise and knowledge of their profession."

While professional qualifications and educational standards vary slightly from province to province, full lDC membership requires a three to four year interior design college diploma or university degree, three years’ experience under a full lDC Member and the successful completion of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam. The winners of the Top 5 Under 5 Awards are graduates of accredited interior design programs and are on the right track to becoming qualified professionals.

"I was very impressed by all the applicants. The experience of judging the Top 5 Under 5 entries has shown me the incredible talent we have here in Canada," says Victoria Horobin, registered interior designer and one of the five judges who evaluated the entries. "The winners are the top of their class in ingenuity and creativity. With emerging professionals such as these, the future of interior design in this country is very bright indeed."

IDC applauds each of the winners:
